Tragedy struck in Sokoto on Saturday as an industrial fire at the BUA cement factory left three people dead, while three others were injured.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other equipment and other valuables were also destroyed by the inferno.

Eyewitnesses also said the fire was extinguished through the combined efforts of the federal and state fire departments working with the plant’s internal fire department.

Provisional information on the situation indicated that the inferno is suspected to be caused by a fuel tanker.

A source told NAN that a worker was repairing a parked tank when the explosion went off.

The source said three people died and three others were injured as a result of the incident which allegedly overpowered company security guards.

When contacted, Sokoto State Fire Department Fire Prevention Officer Mr. Nuhu Lawal confirmed the incident, saying they had mobilized crews and moved fire equipment. firefighting at the scene.

Lawal declined further comment, noting the combined teams are still making efforts to put out the fire.

Meanwhile, Mr. Umar Nura-Sifawa, a Federal Fire Service official in Sokoto, who was also at the scene, said: “It’s an ‘oil fire’ that takes longer to extinguish. “.
