Man dies in accident at Gopeng cement plant

IPOH: A 20-year-old mechanical technician died of serious injuries after becoming stuck in a conveyor drum at a cement plant in Gopeng.

Supian Alias, director of Perak’s Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), said the accident happened around 9.55am on Thursday May 19.

The victim has been identified as Muhammad Hilmi Badrul Hisham.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim had been ordered to be vigilant before starting maintenance work in the area of ​​the coal conveyor belt.

“The victim’s colleague found him stuck in the tail drum of the conveyor.

“He was rushed to Kampar Hospital but was pronounced dead by a doctor,” he said in a statement.

Supian said they cordoned off the conveyor area for further investigation and until the employer makes improvements.

He said legal action would be taken against those responsible for breaches of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.

“Employers are fully responsible for identifying hazards in the workplace, analyzing any risks, as well as ensuring proper risk management before the start of work activities.

“These are measures aimed at reducing the risks for workers and preventing any accidents.

“Such accidents can be avoided if employers carry out comprehensive risk screening and assessment according to guidelines,” he said.
